Resin Color Library

This is a recipe provided by Charles Grage (Glass Scratcher). He published this recipe (and #60- the purple) as part of a demo on making a purple/gold pen blank. He's generously let me add this recipe to the library. I used parts of his gallery picture for the color images. Here's the original paper with the recipe.

Looks good and dark sitting on the table, but held up the light the color appears to be in "waves". Maybe clouds is a better way to describe it. It's not clumped, it's just not evenly distributed. I cast this into a swirl with #67.

Pearl white. Surprisingly opaque-only lets through indistinct light when held up to the light. I cast this into a swirl.

You can see the lightbulb when the sample is held up to the light. But when away from the light it looks much more opaque. I cast this into a swirl.

This was sparse, but nowhere near so as #70. You can distinctly see the light bulb when the sample is held up to the light. I cast this into a swirl.

I was surprised how sparse the color is here- you can see through this and pick out individual mica pieces. Where you see white you're looking through the piece.

Only slightly translucent- You can see some light through it when the sample was held up to the light.

Catalyzed in the same cup as #71 then split. Fairly translucent- you can tell where the lightbulb was when the sample was held up to the light.

Despite looking solid, when held up to the light the sample (approx 1/8" thick) was surprisingly translucent. You could make out the outline of the lightbulb through the sample.

Catalyzed this and #68 in the same cup then split, this took a couple minutes longer to gel than the iron oxide did. Lets indistinct light through at 1/8".

The scanner doesn't pick up the hi-lite blue well, but it's not very strong. It probably needs another background color to offset against. Lets indistinct light through at 1/8".

I was trying to swirl this with recipe 75 to create a green opal look. Even 1 drop of the dye was too strong- should have found a way to cut the dye to about 10% strength (or less). I also should have split the resin 3 ways instead of 2 and put the violet into its own piece. Maybe use recipe #62 instead for an opalescent green. Barely Translucent.
