Mission Cherry Bedroom Set

I'm about 8 years into the construction of my bedroom set. Other projects seem to keep getting in the way.

I love cherry, and liked the mission style furniture plans available through PlansNow. This set gave me the excuse to buy the tools for my shop. I could buy the tools and wood for about what/less than a bedroom set would cost us. At least that's what I told my wife. It's true- until you start buying other tools.

Each piece has more details on its own page.

The first thing I built was the night stands. They're based on the ones available from Plans Now, but I widened them a couple inches to sit next to a king bed instead of a queen.

Even before I finished the nightstands, I designed and started to build my wife's dresser. Since many of the pieces were constructed identically, this saved on time spent setting up the tools.

my armoire Next up was my armoire. However, I didn't quite have enough wood to finish it after building the base section. So I put it aside, built my oak armoire, then bought the lumber for it, the bed, and some other projects. The base section sat around for 4 years while the bed and the other armoire got finished, then I got back to finish it.

The bed. Scaled up from the queen plans to a king, and shortened a little so the pillowtop mattress didn't make it too tall. Just don't walk into the corners of the footboard in the dark.

Finishes

Everything is finished with natural Watco under many many coats of blonde shellac.

Up next: A morris chair and ottoman (Wood magazine plans) if I ever get back to it.
