Semi-Random thoughts from the Trip:

Foot Care

Coming down Tanner gave more blisters than I've ever had before. This caused me to prove that ten year old moleskin doesn't stick very well. Be sure your moleskin is still good. NewSkin, however, is still the best treatment for blisters I've ever found, and was enough to keep me going.

First Aid

I need to put together a more substantial first aid kit than my bandana and a couple of band-aids. I should start with some ibuprofen and cold medicine. (Note: Ibuprofin, not Acetaminifin. Ibuprofin is anti-pain, anti-inflamatory Acetaminifin is anti-pain, anti-fever. Some of the newer drugs are also good.)

Water

I should have mixed up Poweraid into my water for the way in. Maybe I would have had fewer problems. I definately drank more and had more energy the next 3 days after flavoring the water.

As Mike mentions in his trip report, we didn't pump from the river because the silt would clog the filter. I'd notice a little silt in the bottom of the pan after cooking, but didn't really notice it when drinking the water, and it didn't seem to affect the taste of the food. I used Polar Pure for iodine, Mike used iodine tablets with neutralizer. Both of us were satisfied with the results.

Sightseeing

I packed a lot of gear for taking pictures, and had several side-hikes in mind. This is not a hike for much of either. (You do get some impressive pictures, but the wide-angle lens could have been left at home. I only used it in 75-mile canyon.) You are basically hiking all day, and even if you had time to do side hikes, you don't feel like it. If I were to do this hike again I would do it in September or April, where I had more sunlight to work with.
